Family practice was since the beginning the goal of my practice since 2001. Family means that anybody can come and I hope for that, to see the grandma, to see the mother, all the kids, to know their name. It makes a difference and that’s why they come because I try to remember, if not my staff is there for me always to remind me what’s the name of the children or husband or wife and that way I can build a relationship because the relationship is something that really gets them going and makes people come back because they look not only to have their teeth done but also somebody who will understand their family history, the hospitalization they went through let’s say or maybe some kind of a disease that’s going on in the family and then we can prevent or help them a little bit better if we know the entire family so that I hope is going to become a middle name of my practice, a family practice.
The first appointment, believe it or not, it should be when they are still little kids and they don’t even have teeth because we have to teach the parents how to brush and how to nurse the kids. There is a lot of schools and of course if the mother is available for the breastfeeding it’s always the best way to breastfeed because their jaw develops the best but if they cannot do that there is a lot of other methods we can teach mothers how to breast how to feed their children with the specific bottles and specific cups. The goal for that is for the children to start using the muscles of their mouth and to swallow properly and to swallow properly they have to start introducing kids to their hard food as soon as they have their first teeth which is six months when they can sit upright that’s when you start introducing to the hard food.
I see too many kids or adults for that matter they don’t swallow properly and you think like what she’s talking about how you cannot swallow properly well there is two different ways your brain can work one of them is using the muscle around your face and another one is using the tongue which is improper and that’s when the problems with the teeth start so bringing your child early just for the education showing if they have any tongue tie and lip tie anything anatomical that we can take care I’m not saying that I will do it but my colleagues which I have a great relationship with can it’s gonna be very beneficial for the entire family.
